We all know the importance of academics in school. Children learn how to read and write, and study math, science, social studies, and so much more. This is the reason why schools exist. However, there are some other important life lessons such as working with others, persevering when tasks are difficult, doing one’s best, and being responsible that a child needs to learn. This is where educational toys come into play. Toys are actually an important part of a child’s development even though many of us tend to think of them as wastage of money. It encourages children to use their imagination and develop a sense of power when they complete a given task. Educational toys also help in developing positive character traits.

One way of reinforcing positive habits and good choices is through chore charts. These are a tool for changing children’s behavior and offering motivation to them. They provide strong incentives for kids to modify their behavior.

Behavior management can be exasperating for both the parents and the teacher, which is why behavior charts, also known as reward charts, routine charts, and sticker charts, are becoming quite popular these days. These charts are typically used for kids between the ages of 2 to 10. A reward chart can reinforce new skills, remind your little one to finish their chores and homework, and generally encourage positive behavior while discouraging negative behavior. For the longest time, psychologists have known about the power of positive and negative reinforcement.

Most of the time, when a behavior is followed by a reward, it is more likely to occur again. Behavior charts for kids help to track positive and negative behavior, and rewards kids with stars that can later be converted into real rewards like chocolates, movie nights, or even a trip to the park. And no, rewarding is not bribing, since a bribe is always given before the task and reward is given afterwards, to appreciate and encourage the child. A chore chart is actually very useful for your child.

Benefits of Behavior Charts

Provides Motivation to Your Child

The major advantage of a reward chart is that it provides motivation to your child. Be it completing homework, sitting still in class, helping with tidying the house, or behaving properly, reward charts encourage and motivate your child to behave well. Receiving a reward for good behavior will brighten your child’s day and enable him to succeed.

Provides Sense of Fulfillment

Chore charts also provide a sense of fulfillment to your children. This is because, when a child is able to complete a given task successfully and earns a reward in return, they feel special and accomplished. And when the token rewards are turned into actual rewards, the child knows that he/she has earned something important. As a result, a child will want to keep earning rewards and will be constantly encouraged to do well.

How to Make Reward Charts Work for You?

If you notice the good behavior, keep motivating your child even if you have to reward him more than once a day.  The next thing to do is to think about how much behavioral change is expected, so that you and your child can stay positive and realistic. For this, look for small changes first, before working your way up to a big change. For instance, if you want your child to help more with tidying up, ask them to pick up blocks first, and then move on bigger tasks.

Children often get bored with the same rewards. For this, you and your child can work together to set up a reward menu with a choice of rewards to spend stars on. For example, 5 stars = movie with mum and dad, 10 stars= a trip to the park. If your child already gets the rewards in some way, then it’s ineffective. For example, a child who is going for swimming classes every day won’t be very interested in being rewarded with a trip to the swimming pool.

Keeping these things in mind, reward charts will surely work for you. You can go for rewards charts that looks interesting to keep your child a bit more engaged and motivated, and plan for some good rewards that children really like.

Using a reward chart is a great way to keep your child engaged. All you need is to be consistent and track your child’s behavior daily. Putting a star on the chore chart takes just a few seconds but the impact that it creates is lasting and immense. So stick with the chart and don’t skip even a few days. Your child might take some time to get used to the chart but if you explain it to them as a game, they will immediately start looking at it as fun. They will want to do well in school, will love to help you with household chores, and the tantrums about coming back from the park or leaving the toys to do homework will drastically reduce. So get your reward chart soon, and start working towards parenting a well-behaved and happy child.

User Guide

Rewards charts make for an amazing tool to change children’s behavior. Although we know that virtue is a reward in itself, throwing a few stickers won’t really hurt. That’s the thing about reward charts. Although some parents worry that such charts can create a negative impact on their children by making them behave well only if they are rewarded, if used wisely, these charts can help develop long-lasting good habits.

Reward charts display a positive behavior or goal that you expect your child to achieve, and each time your child does well, he/she gets tick a star. A certain number of these stars add up to a reward for your child, which can be anything from a movie outing to play time.

Setting up a reward chart is quite easy. Firstly, you need to decide what behavior you want to change or wish to encourage. It is essential that you use clear and positive descriptions of the behavior. For instance, ‘pick up all your toys’ is clearer than ‘tidy your room.’ After this, you can choose from a wide range of responsibility charts for kids available in the market. When you have picked the chart, decide which stickers you want to go for. The star stickers work well for younger children, whereas older children might like other marks, Make sure to choose some short-term rewards, as real rewards may seem too distant for children. So it’s good to offer short term rewards sometimes, such as special time with mom or dad, a movie night etc.

Also, make sure to give stars right after the behavior you want to see, as it reinforces this behavior. Lastly, try to stay positive and do not punish the child by saying “I’ll remove a star if you do that again”. Focus on motivating your child again.

About Me, Liwago and the Happy Reward Kid´s Chart

I believe that a two-teeth smile of a little one or a no teeth smile of an old-one, both are extremely beautiful in their own way. I am a Sweden-based brand, and at the moment, I operate only through Amazon. LIWAGO wants to be a reason for your children’s smiles, which surely come with lots of love and lots of toys. I understand well that playing is important for children as it is the best way to start learning. Kids do not really require a lot of toys, unlike what parents might think. All they need is some learning toys, which are the best tools to play and learn with. This is why parents should focus on buying toys that can be used in different ways. With this thought in mind, I started my brand LIWAGO, which focuses on creating educational toys for children so that they not only play but also learn in the process.

It is important for parents to pick up the right type of educational toys and it is advised to follow the age recommendation on the packaging. Such toys are important for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to have a direct experience of the world. My learning toys are specially designed to teach specific skills that your child needs at different ages. They will help children to learn particular skills while playing.

To get a better understanding of the educational toys, I conducted a lot of research and provided our own kids with my toys. And since I got positive results, I felt the need to share it with other parents as well. Reward charts are becoming quite popular these days, which is why I included them under our brand and tried to do something new with them. My reward charts are a positive and fun way to encourage the behavior that parents want to see. They have a children-friendly design and suitable for both boys and girls. To bring something unique on board, my responsibility chart for kids comes with 80 beautiful child-friendly chore magnets, 64 (32x2) imaginative reward magnets, 70 stars in two colors, 24 motivation reward magnets, and 3 premium dry-erase markers.
